"My inspiration comes from the nature of light and how it influences what we see. I am a student of nature and I constantly strive to better understand it's nuances and moods. I think I am just beginning to understand what it takes to paint outdoors and how to put my own way of seeing it onto canvas. My hope is to capture in my paintings the joy and wonder I feel for the natural world around us."

Background Information

Randy Pitts graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of South Florida in 1982 with a concentration in drawing and printmaking. Having a career in the commercial arts, Randy decided to expand his creative pursuits and began painting in 2001. Randy has since become devoted to painting the landscape “en plein air” and the challenges of capturing the fleeting moments of light, form and shape it provides.

Randy has continued his education by attending workshops taught by nationally recognized artists including Scott Christensen, Don Demers, Larry Moore and Ken DeWaard. He has earned numerous awards in local and regional exhibitions and competitions. His artwork was chosen by Southwest Art Magazine to promote the Art of the Trees Exhibition in their “Beyond the West” section highlighting upcoming events. His artwork has also been featured on the cover and inside Arbus magazine, Jacksonville’s local Arts publication.

From 2014 through 2016, Randy was President of First Coast Plein Air Painters and oversaw the organization’s growth from just a few members to over 50 members. Under his guidance, the organization hosted several painting events, workshops and demos by nationally recognized artists, and several group exhibitions for its members.
