Richard Lundgren

Jacksonville, FL

"I find nature a perfect resource for subject matter. Being in the woods or at the shore gives me an aesthetic high that impacts my work. Outdoors, I'm intrigued by the way light and shadow interact in defining and coloring objects. While my work is anchored in realism, it often takes on an abstract quality because of the play of light and shadow that attracted me. I enjoy the ease and immediacy of pastel. The sticks of pure pigment provide the brilliant color we see in the world around us. I work both in plein air, where I can better understand my subject, and in the studio, from sketches and photos, to capture fleeting moments in nature."
